Slagging Off the Lib-Dems

It is astonishing how so many people get on their high horses about the Lib-Dems “breaking their promises” and all the rest of it.  I sometimes wonder if these people were absent from the country during the entire election period and its aftermath. Were they perhaps visiting their home planet?

After the election, the Lib-Dems had a stark choice:

A) refuse to join a Coalition and risk 1) being branded as selfish in putting their own interests before those of the country, which were overwhelmingly to have some sort of stable government to clean out the Augean stables that Labour (as usual) left to their successors and 2) being wiped out in the subsequent election that the Tory minority government would soon have called.

And nobody in their right mind is suggesting that the Lib-Dems could have propped up the appalling Brown nonsense pretending to be a government, were they?

B) join a Coalition and make the best of it for the sake for the country knowing that all Coalitions require compromises.

They chose the high road, also knowing that rabid pseudo-socialists (people who have no idea what to do in power or how to achieve their ideals but who usually succeed only in bankrupting the country and otherwise ruining it.) would be eternally high-horsing them to the nth degree.

As it happens, they got some sort of promise on PR, without which they can’t get anywhere in normal times. What exactly they got on this is a bit vague, however. Perhaps someone can explain it to me? The funny thing is that if the UK had REAL PR the Lib-Dems might get a bit of a shock, as MANY people would vote UKIP, GREEN or even BNP whereas at present FPTP means a vote in a general election for ANY of these parties is “wasted”.

It seems to me time people stopped endlessly belly-aching about the Lib-Dems “reneging on promises”. THEY DIDN’T FORM THE GOVERNMENT. They are only a JUNIOR PARTNER. What did you EXPECT THEM to do? There CAN be no Coalition without big compromise. I repeat, the alternative is ANOTHER general election. Is THAT what you really want? Do you think THAT will bring the hapless Ed Millibruder to N°10? Dream on ……

Oh, and study the statistics. The country is BANKRUPT and in a HORRENDOUS mess. The idea that this can be put right without “pain” is stupid.

CUTS, the Media & the Truth

AWESOME on the cuts, by Mary Dejevsky of “The Independent”.

….a refreshing change from the bleeding-heart, economically-illiterate claptrap that is slushing about like bilgewater in a listing ship, some of it from Johann Hari of the same newspaper, might I add.

Well done. Brilliant.

I know the DM is a rag, but it seems that 70% of those who voted do NOT think the cuts have gone too far. Perhaps your average DM reader has more intelligence than he or she is usually credited with by the unintelligentsia.
