Wildlife Massacre

A conference of VIPs on wildlife preservation is taking place in London. Loads of highly-paid and powerful people will jaw for hours, issue a press-conference, and then things will go on much as before.

Cynical? Well, the terrible tragedy taking place in the extermination by Homo Sapiens of beautiful and sentient creatures that do Man no harm is far from new. This has been going on for decades, even if Great White Hunters no longer return from Africa proudly boasting how many big cats, rhinos or elephants they have killed.

otDriven by the lunatic ignorance and immorality of nouveaux-riche Asians, the greed of the usual poacher suspects and the poverty of many who see a rhino kill as a way to a quick fortune, the slaughter of these animals is even accelerating, notwithstanding the continual summits, resolutions, pledges and so on. Indeed, the fewer of these animals there are the higher the price for those products derived from them – a truly appalling example of supply and demand.

What is needed are:

A) … the sale and/or possession of rhino-horn and tiger products, ivory and other stuff from these creatures to be made illegal by China and other governments – AND subject to extremely harsh punishments – AND with resources made available to stamp it out instead of mere lip-service (and yacking at posh conferences)

B) … an international military task-force to hunt down and kill the poachers.

C) … a massive publicity campaign in China, Japan etc, but not a pussy-footing affair, one where the Premier comes on telly and says:

“Look, we have inherited from our tradition the practice of using animal products. This is both STUPID, since they have in fact NO KNOWN THERAPEUTIC qualities and IMMORAL, as these are sentient creatures that do us no harm. Your government has outlawed the purchase and use of products derived from these species, and will ruthlessly pursue and punish those involved in this disgusting trade.”  (Don’t hold your breath ….)

None of these are exactly PC, but the way things are going at the moment we are getting nowhere. Frankly the time for fannying about yacking at summit conferences is over. These species are dying out NOW.

Another great help would be if venal, corrupt, scum-drooling African governments would show more respect for their animals, their people and indeed themselves. However, there is fat sign of that in some of the key countries, including Tanzania as highlighted last week.

An alien visitor sent to observe Homo Sapiens would surely conclude that he is a total and dangerous aberration in galactic life and should be exterminated. We KNOW that this is happening and we KNOW that it is wrong, but somehow we just cannot STOP it. Truly pathetic.

Let us hope at least that when GW and the ensuing famines, plagues and wars wipe us out that as many animals as possible will survive. Perhaps the next  supermammal to evolve in a few million years will be more successful than the current one.

The Telegraph Article is excellent: full of information,
and listing the following as examples of endangered species.

Elephant Murder

The Wonderful Elephant
The Wonderful Elephant

One of the enduring dilemmas one faces is what to do about extremely nasty men who have managed to gain enough power to cause immense suffering.

The choice usually comes down to whether to try to talk to them (to get them to be nicer) or to kill them. On balance, experience seems to show that the former is a fatuous waste of time, so on the whole the latter seems preferable, but of course has become very non-PC.

I am thinking primarily of people such as Hitler, Sadaam Hussein, Gaddafi, Pinochet et al and of course Assad, whose regime continues to kill and hideously maim innocent civilians by the hundreds on a daily basis, those he doesn’t manage to kill being systematically starved where possible.

Assad is of course no more than a family-dynasty gangster thug with zero democratic legitimacy. His family has been oppressing Syria for four decades, and when the long-suffering people finally launched a revolution to gain their freedom – much like in the French and Russian revolutions – of which the left-wing PC brigade are so proud – the free-world gave them “non-lethal support”, a method of aid designed to ensure they die more slowly while Assad’s total control of airspace allows him to indiscriminately attack urban centres and drop barrel-bombs from helicopters onto crowded markets and other public places in those areas daring to resist his fascist rule.

However – given that the free world moronically insists on talking to Assad rather than killing him – my attention has turned to yet another (there is no shortage) very nasty person, one who is also guilty of mass-murder; not personally of course – these people rarely do the killing themselves. The person in question is Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, allegedly complicit in the murder of 11,000 elephants annually in his country, from which the political elite is almost undoubtedly profiting from the illegal trade in ivory, now  in full boom along with the growing Chinese middle-class.

“Killing elephants is not murder.” Well, this is a point of view I am increasingly loath to accept. It has been established that the DNA of chimpanzees is at least 95% the same as humans, and elephants are probably also over 90%. Let’s look at this again: they are 90% THE SAME AS US.

They are also sentient and highly-intelligent animals. (See below) Sentient? They demonstrate remarkable social behaviour and clearly demonstrate consideration for others and indeed grief. When treated with respect, they collaborate remarkably with humans, and unlike big cats for example, can become almost tame in a similar way to dogs.

However, UNLIKE humans, they do not indiscriminately murder out of greed and/or lust for power other species , let alone their OWN species. This latter practice is one in which Man is unique, which if one is a civilised Human may lead one to feel extreme loathing for one’s own species: no wonder so many of us have existential Angst.

Returning to Tanzania, the British establishment has apparently decided to try to talk to this President rather than kill him, and of course we wish the former luck, even if the chances of success seem slim. Is someone prepared to turn a blind eye at best to the slaughter of tens of thousands of such magnificent creatures likely to be converted to humanity by a lecture from Prince Charles?

The problem is of course democratic accountability, of which there is little in Tanzania – or indeed a multitude of other countries, among which Africa is well represented. Until the ordinary people rule their countries, nasty mass-murderers (they almost always are) will thrive and do immense damage. This is of course why free men should be much tougher on fascist regimes.

Speaking of which, why we continue to trade with China is a mystery. Without China’s support the truly murderous and gruesome regime of North Korea could not survive, yet we turn a blind eye to that and continue to buy Chinese goods as if there were no tomorrow – which for many in North Korea’s horrendous death-camps there certainly is not.

PS I picked up the information about Tanzania from the Daily Mail, a British news paper usually treated with utter contempt by the illiberal left-wing PC unintelligentsia – which of course just goes to show how moronic the stance of the DM snobs really is.
